Many of us are lucky to be born into a nice family, have a great childhood, university education free of charge. But what if somebody doesn't have such opportunities? What if you grow up without parental support, having to struggle for everything from food to a diploma?
This special man, Carlos proved how one can accomplish anything he wants if he is focused enough.
"My mother died when I was a baby. My father couldn't take care of me so I went to live with one of my aunts when I was 11. They treated me very well. My aunts and uncles put the money together every month so that I could go to school, eat and buy the basic things I needed. But I had to go to live on my own when I was 17 and nobody supported me anymore. I started the university and worked simultaneously but it was hard to make ends meet. After a while, I stopped going to classes in order to work full time. The people around me didn't understand why I left school but sometimes I didn't have enough money even to eat... so I had no choice. I worked hard, went back to university, studied hard. While everybody was partying, I hadn't drunk a drop of alcohol till the age of 29, I was so concentrated on my classes. Finally, I graduated successfully and I started to work as an accountant. Now, 7 years later, I have a house and a car. I discovered how amazing it is to travel and I visit a different place every other weekend with my wife. I could also buy a land where I'm building a house for my father. When it's ready, I want to start a grocery shop there so that he can become financially independent. This is why I always say that Mexico is the land of opportunities: even if you have nothing, with enough hard work and determination you can accomplish anything."
